How to Remove Limescale & Hardwater Stains Naturally
There is usually no question as to whether you have hard or soft water. Soft water leaves your skin feeling soft, and your appliances and fixtures looking new. Hard water in contrast, leaves that pesky white residue behind, often clogging drains, pipes and leaving hard water stains everywhere water is used. Common problems with hard water include a clogged coffee pot, shower head or water faucets. Hard water is often known to stain bathtubs, toilets and sinks. And I know there are MANY of your who now detest your previously lovely glass shower stall, which is now coated in a pasty looking spotted mess of limescale. For those that suffer, there are solutions!
1. Run strait white vinegar through your coffee pot. Once that is complete, take the vinegar out of the pot and pour it back in the reservoir. Run water through the pot twice to complete the process. Scrub the coffee pot with hot water and soap to complete the cleaning process.
2. Fill a plastic bag with vinegar and place the shower head in the bag. Seal the bag with duct tape and let sit overnight. The vinegar will remove the hard water stains and calcium deposits, leaving you with a clean spraying showerhead.
3. Pour a 1/2-gallon of white vinegar into your toilet and let soak as long as possible, but not less than 1 hour. Flush the toilet and clean as normal. This will help remove the unsightly hard water stains left around your toilet.
4. Run a cycle through your dishwasher without soap, but rather strait white vinegar and lemon juice. Simply pour two cups of each into the bottom of the dishwasher and run cycle as normal. This will help unclog any areas full of hard water deposits, as well as remove any visible stains.
5. Scrub your bathtub with hot water and white vinegar. If needed, soak the tub for a couple hours in the vinegar solution. Scrub the tub with a hard bristle scrub pad. Rinse, and you have a clean tub.
6. For Walls/Shower stall doors; To start wrap the surface of the item you would like to clean with paper towels. Spray the paper towels, until they are completely saturated, with Distilled white vinegar (The brand of vinegar does not matter, However acetic acid concentration does. Do not use a vinegar with more than 8% acetic acid) It is important to spray enough vinegar to soak through the paper towel. Let the soaked paper towel sit on the surface for an hour or two, depending on how much build up is present. After soak time has passed remove the paper towels and clean the surface with a clean paper towel soaked in vinegar. (In extreme cases the amount of soak time can vary up to 10 hours. In these cases re-weting will be required every hour and a half or so to keep towels damp)
