Thanks to my career with Norwex, I was able to fulfill my TOP bucket list item – I met (and hugged!!!) Faith Hill and Tim McGraw!!!!
Let me start this story from the beginning though…
I’ve always been very goal oriented in life, and the same has been true for my Norwex career. When I joined Norwex, I had a goal. I needed to earn $3,000 per month to keep our family budget afloat, and I needed to do it part-time. That was a goal I could work toward. It was measurable, definable, and achievable. Throughout my career with Norwex, I set and achieved goal after goal by moving just one step forward each day. It’s been amazing for me, and it has been an amazing lesson to teach my sons as they grow up in a Norwex family.
Goals are super important in life and in my career, but recently, I had a wake up moment, and realized that goals alone are not enough.
This past year, I realized that while I was good at goal setting – I was horrible at dreaming.
I didn’t really “dream.”
When people would do dream board / vision board exercises, I would just try to look busy until it was over. I never actually made one. I’m a very practical person, and to me it always made more sense to set realistic goals than to really dream.
The problem is, if you don’t dream – you can lose your passion for what you’re doing.
Last fall I went through a little bit of an emotional crisis with my business.
I was a tiny bit…bored. Is it okay to admit that?
I loved what I was doing, but I was trying to find that adrenaline rush again, something to push me to a new level. I’m a “D” personality, so I love the adrenaline of working toward and meeting goals. I had kind of run out of goals though, so I started looking for things to challenge myself.
One night, my loving husband more or less challenged me to start DREAMING a little bit instead of just working hard.
That prompted us to set some business goals and then plan a surprise trip to Disney World for us and our two boys; one month later we took that trip. That sparked a fresh level of enthusiasm in me. I started looking for more opportunities to dream and to dream up fun adventures for either Curt and I or our whole family.
People talk about ‘bucket lists,’ but that concept never made sense to me because it seemed like wishing for things that couldn’t come true. If people asked what was on my bucket list; I would say I didn’t have one. I loved my family, I was passionate about my work, and I thought that was enough.
One day last fall, I realized that I had a secret bucket list and that there was just ONE THING on it. Who of my readers are country music fans? Who is a fan of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill? I’ve been a major Tim and Faith fan since the early 1990’s.
Whenever people ask “If you could meet any living person, who would it be?” my answer was always “Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.”
A few weeks ago, I did just that! I happened to be online right when tickets to their St. Paul show went on sale last fall and I told Ticketmaster I wanted the best available seats. I was shocked when the results came back saying I could purchase a front row ticket that included a meet and greet with Tim and Faith.
It was my opportunity to fulfill the one thing I always wanted to do but never thought was possible.
I was one of only 10 people that got to meet Tim and Faith while they were in Minnesota, and I got to be the first one in the room with them.
I was waiting in the room with the photographer while she took practice shots. Tim walked around the corner and said “Hey – we match!” and grabbed me in a big hug!! (At that moment, I was so glad for my favorite boutique Frank Murphy for helping me pick out the perfect Frank Lyman top for the concert!!) Faith was right behind him and hugged me too.
Our boys wanted me to ask what their favorite cars were, so I said “My sons were begging me to ask what your favorite car is.” Tim said “My favorite car? The Aston Martin DB11.” I turned and looked at Faith then and he said “honey – what’s your favorite car?” She said “I really like trucks, so I guess the Range Rover.”
It was totally a dream, and it was amazing that it came true. Can you imagine having the ONE THING on your bucket list come true? Wow!!
Once I started letting myself dream, I’ve found that it’s really energized me, energized my family, and brought new spark to my marriage. There’s something so exciting about really dreaming together and then making those dreams come true.
So…my Norwex consultant readers, customer readers, and fellow leaders…I want to encourage you to spend some time and really dream. Don’t just set goals. What would change in your life if you were to grow in confidence?
- What if you were to grow your household income?
- What if you were able to create disposable income that you never had before?
- What would change in your relationship if you were able to go on an all-expense-paid trip with your spouse, partner, or child to Maui in 2019?
- What have you secretly dreamed of but never thought was possible?
Write those things down and then remind yourself that nothing is ever impossible!! Norwex allows us to really achieve any dream that we can dream.
