Question: Can I use vinegar with Norwex microfiber?
Answer: Yes, but it is not necessary to create a clean surface.
With just water and Norwex microfiber, you can remove 99% of bacteria when using the microfiber correctly. Even after over a decade with Norwex, I am still amazed by Norwex microfiber’s cleaning capabilities. Sometimes, in making the switch to Norwex, some people like to take baby steps when it comes to a more natural cleaning method.
Vinegar is the classic natural cleaning ingredient. If you ask your Grandma, it was probably what she used. People also use it as a cleaner and disinfectant because it’s made from acetic acid. It can even kill bacteria (Healthline.com). Because of these properties, it is used to clean windows, bathroom surfaces, countertops, floors, and drains. Certain stone surfaces and hardwood finishes don’t play well with vinegar, but for many materials, it works fine. It’s another effective and frugal way to clean!
As I said before, if you’re using Norwex microfiber, it’s not necessary to use it, but it won’t damage the cloth. Bleach, fabric softener, and dryer sheets are the 3 no-no’s of Norwex microfiber. You can use vinegar with Norwex microfiber, and it will not wreck the cloth.
Basic Infused Cleaning Vinegar Recipe
The other day, my friend showed me how she reuses he peels from her kids’ oranges to make an infused vinegar mix. It’s a great way to be more sustainable! All you need to do it collect a glass jar full of peels and then fill until the peels are covered with vinegar.
If you want to make more complex scents, you could add other herbs and spices with the peels. Maybe lemon & mint or orange & clove.
Then just let it sit overnight or up 3 weeks, depending on how deep you’d like the scent.
Strain out the peels.
To clean- Add 1 part water and 1 part of the infused vinegar together into a spray bottle- I like to use my Norwex Forever Bottle- then start cleaning! My friend likes to use her spray to loosen up things from her countertops & kids chairs before wiping down with her Norwex Kitchen Cloth.
Norwex has special cleaners for tough jobs!
While vinegar can be useful, I find my Norwex enzyme & biotic cleaners much more effective! The Bathroom Cleaner easily breaks down soap scum and hard water build up. The Probiotic Hard Surface Cleaner address set-in stains, grease and grime from hard surfaces and is safe (unlike vinegar) on wood, tile, vinyl, stainless steel, marble, granite, copper, glass and unsealed grout. Finally, the Odour Eliminator is great in the laundry to get at strong odors out.
When you’re comfortable though, you can drop the vinegar solution & use just water & Norwex microfiber. You’ll have a totally green clean!
