There are so many things in the news these days; News stories that may excite us, frighten us, or light a fire in us that something must change. This week has been the latter for me.
In the past 3 years, I believe women have become more empowered. They are standing up and shouting from the rooftops demanding equality.
I’m not much of a feminist in the traditional sense; I train my boys to be gentlemen. I expect them to hold open doors for women, carry heavy bags, and just generally cherish the women they love. With that said, I also expect them to know and affirm that women are intelligent, strong, impactful individuals who can, and WILL, change the world when they set out to do so.
Lately corporations in the US have been receiving a lot of conflicting press for the raises that they are giving their employees, and many of them are attributing it to the recent tax reform act. Some people are singing praises, and some are saying the money isn’t enough.
Here are a just a few of the things I’ve read recently:
• According to CNN.com, “Walmart is the United States largest employer. This week, Walmart announced it was raising its minimum starting wage to $11 an hour (from $10) and giving eligible workers a $1,000 bonus, tying its munificence to the recent Republican tax cut. The business media covered the story.”
• CNN further states “Yet that wasn’t the only news Walmart made public. On the same day, Walmart, with far less fanfare, also announced it would close dozens of Sam’s Club wholesale stores, laying off thousands.”
• Walmart wasn’t alone in announcing raises. In September, Forbes tells us that “big-box retailer Target will raise its pay floor to $15 an hour by 2020.”
Raises sound like a positive thing, right? Everyone should be happy with a raise. What strikes me, however, is the math behind all of this…
Are You Asking for a Raise?
It’s January, and that’s often the time of the year that people receive or ask for bonuses or raises. I decided to google “how to ask for a raise,” and found some really interesting articles. Honestly; they mostly made me sad.
Huffington Post’s article “How to ask for a raise in 2018 according to the professionals” tells us “Remember that raises are about retention, not reward.” They go on to state:
No one is going to give you a raise because you want, need or even “deserve” one, said Day Merrill of 2BDetermined, a career coaching company. A salary increase may acknowledge an employee’s contributions from the past several months, but its most important function is to retain talent the organization needs in the coming year.
Have you ever had to ask for a raise or bonus?
How did it feel? Was it exciting, empowering, and did it make you more excited to do your best at your job? Or was it stressful, nerve-wracking, and maybe a bit frustrating?
Although there may be a few of you who love the challenge of asking for a raise, I imagine most of you would rather NOT have to go through the stress of it! I’d venture that you would waaaaaaay rather have amazing promotion opportunities built into the foundation and structure of the business you work for… am I right?
Maybe this has been your experience?
Or this?
Or perhaps you’ve heard this before? *insert eye roll*
I think some of you have ACTUALLY had this said this to you… I’m so sorry
Enter, Norwex.
Norwex does things differently… better.
One thing I LOVE about Norwex is that not only do they offer us a fantastic business opportunity, but when Norwex is blessed by success, they pour that into enhancing the compensation plan for consultants and leaders rather than simply making the owners and executives wealthier. And you will NEVER have to experience anything similar to the above scenarios, asking for a raise.
Norwex has one of the best compensation plans in the home-party business:
1. Norwex made permanent the “Promote and Grow” bonuses that give our entry-level leaders the opportunity to earn $100 when they promote to Team Coordinator* and $150 when they promote to Sales Leader.*
2. Norwex also made permanent the extremely generous bonuses available for our Senior Vice President Sales Leaders to earn.
In addition to these fantastic permanent enhancements to our compensation plan, Norwex announced a one year bonus plan that allows all of our Sales Leaders and above to earn an additional monthly bonus.
Wow! What other company does that!?
When Norwex is blessed, they bless those who help spread their mission.
Thank you Norwex. I could not possibly be more proud to represent you!!!
