Want to get a break and pull the plug on televison temporarily to see if it would be good for you and your family?
It’s definitely much easier said than done, but here are the benefits of deciding to pull the plug on your TV, no matter how long you decide to do it for.
Why You Should Pull the Plug on TV
- More spare time. You’ll get more done! Hello laundry!
- You’ll exercise more. You’ll be bored, and you’ll be forced to do something else, like use your treadmill, or do sit-ups, or go on a nature walk, ha!
- Extra sleep. Some evenings, without TV, you’ll be bored, so you’ll just go to bed early! Or some evenings, the TV won’t be keeping you hostage to the end of an episode, therefore you’ll actually go to bed when you’re tired.
- More quality time with your family. You’ll end up playing board games with your kids. You’ll end up staring lovingly into your spouses’ eyes and having pillow fights. I’m not kidding about the pillow fights! I have a friend that cancelled their cable, and one night, she ended up having a pillow fight with her spouse, and they had a blast! If they hadn’t pulled the plug, they would have just sat side-by-side like zombies in front of the TV that night.
How Long Will You Do It For?
How long should you pull the plug on televison in your home? One day? One weekend? One week? One month? Indefinitely? You’ll reap the benefits, whatever time period you choose.
Think you want to go without it indefinitely, and reap these benefits longer term? The easiest way for you to accomplish this feat is to completely cancel your cable or satellite, not just unplug the TV. I know; it sounds scary!!! But you’ll last longer, obviously, and it’s likely that you’ll like your life more without it!
Turning off the tv will be like a mental detox. You’ll feel reinvigorated, no matter how long you decide to pull the plug. And FYI, if you do it long-term rather than short-term, your tolerance for commercial breaks will change. And you’ll actually WANT to watch less cable and satellite television, because commercials, and their constantness, will drive you cray-cray! You’re currently immune to them, but a break will totally change your mind and You WON’T MIND that you’re not watching shows!
But here’s the BEST PART about making the choice to cancel your cable or satellite: you’ll save A LOT OF MONEY!!!! We’re talking LOADS of money!!!! Take a moment to calculate how much you spend a year on Television.
What number did you come up with? Did your heart skip a beat? ‘Nuff said.
