Let’s talk about Post-Workout Snacks!
You know what I hate? Being Hangry. Do you ever get Hangry?
If you’re not familiar with the term ‘Hangry,’ it’s a state of being that happens when some people (like me), don’t eat their meals at their ‘regular’ time. Or even their mid-day snack at the regular time. The level of hungry turns into shakes, frustration, weakness and eventually intense anger (Don’t you come late to our restaurant get-together!)
You know what’s the worst kind of Hangry though?
Working out like a beast leaves you weak, panting, and maybe sometimes wanting-to-crawl to your car/door/bed, but can’t, because your whole body is jelly and your belly is.too.empty.to.stay.alive…. What’s even worse is 30 minutes after a workout, if you haven’t fuelled your freshly tigress-ed body, you get Hangry in a way that turns you into an intensely angry tigress!
Avoid this state of being AT ALL COSTS! For your sake.
But mostly, for the people around you, ha!
Solution: healthy, high-protein post-workout snacks for recovery
High-protein snacks can be a natural and effective way to refuel after a workout.
Great sources of protein are:
- Chicken and other Poultry
- Milk, Cheese and Yogurt
- Peas and Beans
So, some of those aren’t so easy to ‘grab.’ Like, the meat part, right? And some of those items on their own are just plain boooooring on their own!
Solution: Make yummy snacks out of them!
Like homemade granola bars, energy balls, trail mixes, etc. There are a lot of great pre-made high-protein snacks you can purchase, too, to always have the snacks you need on hand (like, in your purse, gym bag, car, cupboard, office desk. You get the idea)!
