Norwex has expanded their line of laundry detergent and I am already set to give my Norwex Powerzyme Review- it is spectacular!
Norwex’s line of laundry detergents wasn’t complete until Powerzyme joined the team! There are already 3 laundry detergents and several boosting formulas, but Norwex Powerzyme unleashes the power of enzymes in a whole new way! You’re going to have to see it to believe it! Between the enzymes and plant- based surfactants, this formula can address a broad spectrum of stains and odors that might be in your laundry pile.
What are enzymes & which ones are in Powerzyme?
Most of us left off thinking about enzymes in 10th grade biology, but that knowledge will come in handy because enzymes function similarly to the way they do within our bodies. They are catalysts, quickly helping to break down starches, fats and proteins. This makes them very effective at removing all types of stains. Let’s take a look at which specific ones Powerzyme is using:
- Cellulase- removes soil and reduces fabric graying AND helps prevent pilling and helps maintain the look of your fabrics. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a laundry detergent helping fabric like that!
- Subtilisin- targets protein-based stains from meat juices, eggs, milk, wine, sweat, body oils, blood, urine, feces and grass
- Amylase- breaks down starch-based stains including eggs, sugar, sauce, ice cream, gravy, chocolate and grass
- Mannanase- removes gums found in ice cream, dairy products, dairy alternatives, dressings and sauces
Check then out in action in this demo!
A teaspoon of jelly will be added to a glass of water to show the how the enzymes are natural catalysts that break down stains and odors by targeting specific organic compounds like proteins. When they join forces with the agitation in your washing machine, this process happens even faster, speeding up the breakdown process.
Here is the time-lapsed version
Now let’s watch in slow-mo
At 4:30 Powerzyme was added to a glass of warm water. It dissolves completely.
Following that, a teaspoon of raspberry jelly is added to the glass
The jelly has been added to the glass. Get ready for some magic!
Just 2 minutes later, the jelly has dissolved into the water, but not disappeared
At 9 minutes out, the glass has gone from opaque to cloudy
Just a half hour later, the water is getting clearer
By 4 hours in, the water has become transparent, the jelly has almost dissolved! You can see the letters on the package through the glass!
After sitting overnight, the glass is completely clear! The jelly has disappeared, broken down by the enzymes! That is the kind of power we mean by Powerzyme!
This spectrum of enzymes is amazing if your laundry pile encounters these materials throughout the year. I can imagine families with young kids will LOVE all the different substances targeted! Norwex has been using enzymes in their products for awhile, and now you can harness them in in your laundry routine. Norwex’s Liquid Laundry Detergent also uses enzymes- protease (subtilisin), amylase, pectate lyase, mannanase, cellulase- but Powerzyme is a less-mess, powder formula. They are distinctly different experiences.
Why it is beneficial
Each bag of Powerzyme contains 100 HE washing machine loads! That is a lot of cleaning power per bag! It leans on the enzymes to do all the hard work, but the formula doesn’t contain any other questionable ingredients either. Powerzyme is formulated without:
- SLS/SLES
- Phthalates
- 1,4 dioxane
- Synthetic dyes and fragrances
- Phosphates
- Parabens
- Ethlyene Oxide
- Chlorine bleach
- Ammonia
- Optical brighteners
- Formaldehyde donors
- Fillers
- EDTA
All the ingredients are biodegradable and USDA certified 91% biobased content from plants and other renewable sources. The detergent contains natural water softeners and is septic safe. Once the laundry cycle is over, the enzymes will wash away or be eliminated by the dryer heat. It is great not only for humans, but for the planet too!
OK, OK- but let’s cut to the chase- does it ACTUALLy work on all these different substances? These before and after photos of the Norwex Powerzyme Laundry Detergent speak for themselves!
Before & After
How to Use
Just add the recommended amount of detergent to your wash machine, then load the clothes. Depending on load size, add an additional 5–10 ml for a standard machine. It’s so simple! It’s not recommended on wool or silk. If you want to handwash something like the towel above was just dissolve 1–2 scoops in a sink full of lukewarm water, then add clothing. Rinse well before drying. Here is a little chart that is on the back of the packaging to walk you through.
