Hair-washing day… ugh, the struggle is real. If you’ve got long hair, you know exactly what I mean! Washing, drying, and styling can feel like a full-time job. Thankfully, I’ve found a little sanity-saving hack: dry shampoo to the rescue! When I incorporate this into my hair routine, I can go longer between wash days.
But there’s a catch. It turns out that about 70% of dry shampoos tested contain high levels of carcinogens. Yikes!

And as if that’s not enough, most of them come in aerosol cans, which can mess with your health too.

That’s why I was so excited when Norwex released a Volumizing Dry Shampoo. It’s benzene-free, skips the aerosol, and uses a cool little pump that’s way healthier. I’ve been using this product for over a year and a half now, and this post, I’ll spill all the tea on why I love it, what makes it different, and how to get the best results.
What Makes the Norwex Dry Shampoo Different?

This dry shampoo is made with USDA-certified 100% biobased content from plants and other renewable sources. Tapioca starch, kaolin clay, white charcoal, and upcycled rice bran wax absorb excess oil while also building volume and texture in your hair and promoting a healthier scalp!
What I Love About the Norwex Volumizing Dry Shampoo
Long-Lasting Value
This bottle contains 22,222 pumps of product. When I first heard that, I thought, “Excuse me?! That’s a LOT!”
This bottle lasts significantly longer than aerosol cans, which last about a month or two with regular use. The benefit of an aerosol is a light, even mist while the downside is that a lot of product ends up in the air, not your hair. Thankfully, the pump on the Norwex Dry Shampoo also creates a light even mist, just in a different way.
Norwex ‘officially’ shares that this bottle lasts approximately 9-12 months, depending on usage. I bought the Volumizing Dry Shampoo when it launched in January 2024 and started tracking my usage by marking the date on the cap.

I’ve used it at least once a week, often twice, and I still have over a quarter of the bottle left!
You can even see how the lettering has worn off my container.

I’m honestly gobsmacked. As comedian Leanne Morgan would say in her adorable Southern accent, “What in the world?!” (Insert link of Leanne https://www.facebook.com/reel/517964580984228)
Bottom line: This bottle goes a long way, and you get serious value for your money.
Travel-Friendly
The compact, slender design fits perfectly in your makeup bag for weekend trips, exotic destinations, or European tours. It’s the ideal travel companion. Why waste time washing your hair when you can just spray and go?
Plus, it doesn’t take up much space in your bathroom cabinet—unlike all those other beauty products and little bottles of lotions and elixirs we all love (I know you have too many of them! *wink*)
Light, Non-Lingering Fragrance
I’m not a fan of strong perfumes, and even the ‘light’ versions of frangranced dry shampoos are overpowering to me. This one has a natural coconut fragrance, but honestly, I can barely smell it. And trust me, I have a nose on me!
It Works!
Most importantly, it works. This powder is different from popular aerosol sprays, but it gets the job done just as well.
It’s a lightweight powder that comes out in a soft, even dusting—not heavy or chalky. Even on dark hair, it doesn’t leave a white residue when applied correctly. I’ve been happy with how it has absorbed the oils in my hair, and I can go 4, sometimes 5 days, without shampooing my hair!
Refill Pouches Available
Cut down on plastic waste with refill pouches! When you run out, don’t toss the bottle. Just grab a discounted refill pouch, pour it in, and keep on truckin’.

How to Use
1. Flip a section of your hair over to expose the roots, and from no more than 6 inches away, pump a few sprays at the roots.
2. Repeat in different areas of the scalp.
3. Let it sit for 30 seconds to absorb oil.
4. Massage/rub it in all over with your fingertips.
5. Use as little or as much as you need for visible results.
Optional Tips that may be helpful
– Flip your head upside down and massage again for extra volume and no visible residue.
– Brush your hair afterward to help reduce any powdery film.
– Apply at night so it can absorb oils while you sleep, making your morning routine even faster.
Troubleshooting the Pump
Sometimes the powder compacts at the bottom of the pump, reducing how much powder comes out when the pump is depressed. This has become a common complaint for users of this new product. Here’s how to fix it:
1. Shake the bottle well to loosen the powder. Try pumping again.
2. If that doesn’t work, tap the base and top of the pump on a hard surface.
3. Still stuck? Unscrew the pump, press it down firmly to open the prongs at the bottom. They likely won’t open, due to compacted powder. So keep pumping until the prongs open. Reattach the pump to the bottle.

What I Don’t Love
The pump can be a bit finicky, even after just a few uses (this equates to product getting stuck inside anywhere between 1–3 times a month).
Despite this, I prefer the Norwex pump because it means the product lasts longer and reduces waste compared to an aerosol can. The occasional troubleshooting is worth it to me.
Big kudos to Norwex for trying something new. I hope they refine the pump design in future versions to reduce issues—it’s a genuinely innovative approach to product delivery!
Final Rating
The Norwex Dry Shampoo is a standout product: it absorbs oil effectively, skips the harmful ingredients, and avoids overpowering fragrances.
If it weren’t for the slightly finicky pump, it would be a perfect 5/5. So for now, I’m giving it a strong 4 out of 5 stars!
